Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIOGN302F - Operate mud pumps

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare to operate mud pumps

  1. Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
  2. Access, interpret and apply operational mud pump documentation and confirm work activity is compliant
  3. Identify and minimise environmental issues and potential hazards, and assess and address risks within scope of own role and according to workplace procedures
  4. Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
  5. Conform to safe working practices and current legislative and operational requirements
  6. Communicate with other personnel at site according to work requirements and confirm briefings and handover details are communicated and received
  7. Confirm availability of necessary third party utilities
  8. Visually inspect and listen to mud pumps for abnormal sounds or noise
  9. Check piston lubricating system according to workplace procedures
  10. Check pop-off valve setting according to workplace procedures
  11. Check pressure of suction and discharge dampeners according to workplace procedures
  12. Charge discharge dampener with nitrogen
